Car Chargers – Reader Recommendations

This morning I asked people on Twitter to recommend me a car charger for my Desire and within minutes I received plenty of responses. Here’s a summary of those recommendations from the MiHTCDesire Twitter followers (tried to include postage wherever possible):

For Netherland readers, I was recommended the website pdashop.nl by reinerzijl although he didn’t specify a certain product.

Quite a few people suggested the Official HTC charger and so I was pretty tempted to go for one but the one on eBay for £4 sounded like a steal so I went for that instead. I’ll switch to the official one if there’s any problems with it.

I’ll try to get more details from superron08 for the Tesco charger and update this post when I do.

Id suggest using a genuine HTC one too, you wouldnt want any damage to your phone from over voltage situations would you?

The cheap ones sometimes are identical to the OEM ones but the majority that ive tested arent really suitable to anything, let alone charge an expensive phone! The first time you have a problem, may be when it burns out your charging circuit inside your phone!

I have tried both the official HTC charger and a number of “other” basic chargers in the car. What I found was the HTC charger was able to charge the phone much faster than the “others”. Also the HTC official charger was able to charge the phone while using SatNav, while using the non HTC chargers the phone lost power when using SatNav.

Hi, I bought a car dock with charger for just 10 pounds on eBay the dock is great but the charger was a very cheap 1, it worked for a short while then just stopped, I really needed my phone for both sat nav and calls so I had to pull in to a motorway services and got totally ripped off, he tried to sell me a nonbranded cheap thing for 16.99!
He also had a Nokia 1 at 25.00 pounds, his HTC 1 was 30.00 but was out of stock. I bought the Nokia 1, I’d hate to find myself stuck again, it seems fine so far. I recommend you get a branded 1 preferably HTC but beware of copies on eBay. I hope this helps

Just a word of warning i got a cheap charger for an ipod off ebay,came home to a burning smell in the house and found the charger had blown apart and little smouldering parts of it were all around the room.

I just use my TomTom charger with a mini to micro converter. Fortunately it has the same rating as the Desires charger.

Be very careful using chargers from Ebay.
You need one if you are using SatNav but the one I got burnt the battery out after a couple of hours. I was very lucky not to lose the phone completely. It’s just not worth it!!

Forgot to add that I as a Dutchmen got my phone here in The Netherlands, but used dealextreme for my screen protector and a British site for my pouch.
